The first OBC Fried Chicken store was set up as a company-owned store in Tembisa on the East Rand. It opened its doors to the public during July 2014 and was an instant success. However, management was not prepared to rely on the track record of one store alone. They set up a second store, this time in Hazyview in Mpumalanga. It was only after the second store had proved equally successful that OBC Fried Chicken was released as a franchise. OBC Fried Chicken is a quick service sit-down and take-away restaurant that offers traditional fried chicken meals of excellent quality at affordable prices as well as drinks and ice cream. The proprietary spice mix and the batter our customers love so much were carefully developed to ensure that it pleases their taste buds. It is also noteworthy that in response to customer requests, we now sell our secret sauces in bottles for customers to take home.

What differentiates OBC Fried Chicken from many of our competitors is a combination of taste, an attractive sit-down area, competitive pricing and the fact that we treat our customers with respect. In return, they reward us with brand loyalty which has resulted in exponential growth of our existing outlets and has created an ideal platform for the establishment of additional stores. We have already secured some exciting sites that will be offered to suitably qualified franchisees

Extensive franchisee support

Franchisees investing in an OBC Fried Chicken outlet will receive support at a level only a long-established and highly experienced franchise organisation can offer. You can expect the following:

  • Assistance with site selection and complete project management.
  • A period of extensive training for the franchisee, assistance with staff recruitment and their initial and ongoing training.
  • Delivery of quality goods from the OBC Distribution Centre or prescribed suppliers.
  • The standing of the OBC brand combines with strong advertising campaigns on social media, regular pamphlet drops and competitions to generate a steady flow of customers. This means that new franchisees gain traction quickly.
  • The selling price recommendations we make and the franchise fees we charge are structured to allow franchisees to be competitive without eroding their ability to make a profit.
  • The OBC Group’s standing as a model franchisor was recognised by FASA who named us Franchisor of the Year 2015. Although this was based on the performance of OBC Chicken and Meat, the same intellectual property is accessible to OBC Fried Chicken franchisees and the same operations team supports them.

What’s the next step?

Should you want to become part of the OBC Fried Chicken family, are passionate about fast food and customer service, prepared to be a hands-on operator and able to support an investment of about R2 million we want to hear from you. Please complete the on-line application form and submit it to us for evaluation. Should a successful match appear to be likely, we’ll invite you for a no-obligation discussion and show you around a few of our stores.

As a next step, we’ll ask you to sign a confidentiality undertaking before we provide you with copies of the disclosure document and the franchise agreement. We’d also welcome your request to work in one of our company-owned stores for a few days so that you can get first-hand experience of what your new career will be like.

Subject to a suitable site becoming available in your area of choice and after the cooling-off periods prescribed under the CPA have passed, an intensive training period begins during which your very own restaurant will be built out under the supervision of our operations team. In our experience, you could be the proud owner of an OBC Fried Chicken restaurant within four to six months after first making contact. Our marketing manager,

Robbie Capazario, will be pleased to provide further information. You can call him on 082 3377747.

The OBC experience our customers love is now available in a convenient sit down or take-away restaurant.

It would have been easy for us to rest on the laurels of our Chicken & Meat retail business. But that’s not what we’re about. By our very nature, we are always looking for new ways to bring our customers more of the taste they love. It’s who we are. It’s in our DNA.

OBC Fried Chicken opened its first store in Tembisa, east of Johannesburg in 2014.

The interest was immediate and the results have been quite phenomenal. With the same commitment to quality, convenience and consistency that people have come to expect from OBC, our Fried Chicken store offers an affordable and delicious taste experience.
